Gbó'rí s'Ókè (Psalm 24) by Dare Fashọla feat. Adedayọ Ṣẹkẹrẹ
By Solomon Oludare Fashola
A folkloric interpretation of the 24th Psalm spiced with great percussion and wind instruments. You cannot miss the inputs of the finest Nigerian musicians at home and in the diaspora on this classic which was mostly home recorded. A spontaneously stringed together phrase during one of the rehearsal sessions of the Cherubim and Seraphim Lagos State Mass Choir, meant for an overture to C&S Hymn 77; arrives on your airwaves today via one of the Celebrate The Comforter 2019 Mass Choir rehearsals, the prompting of Adekalẹ Babatunde Balogun (Fere Jesu) and the innovative home recording initiative of Dare Fashọla and his producer, Diméjì Ọnasanya. This sophomore of such collaborations - coming on the footsteps of Ẹ̀mí Ọ̀run (debut single) - attracts much intrigues in personnel, process and innovation. The text is from the last four verses of the 24th Psalm; the chord changes on the chorus reminds one of The Beatles' all time classic "Hey Jude" (bVII, IV, I); the personnel consists of Nigerian finest musicians at home and in the diaspora; most of the inputs were done in individual home studios and went back and forth - on the wings of information technology - between Lagos and Abẹokuta, Nigeria; Athens, Greece and Maryland, United States of America. The exotic broth of the creative genius of Dare and the amazing range of Adedayọ are hereby whipped into a chef d'oeuvre by the unassuming mind of DMajor7th. May I suggest that you enjoy the music by taking your mind off the pandemic lockdown, the prevailing circumstance that restricted the movement of the musicians but eked a good product in spite of it all. - Akíndiméjì.
